SOARING LIKE EAGLES

How Mentorship Is Shaping Futures- Paul Abayo and Kevin Magero

Mentorship is often described as guidance, but at its best, it is a partnership that helps people discover who they can become.

Paul Abayo is a mentor within Tuendelee Foundation’s Eagle Group, and Kevin Magero is one of our scholars whose journey he has walked alongside step by step.

For Paul and Kevin, their mentorship journey at Tuendelee Foundation has been exactly that—a shared commitment to growth, wisdom, and striving for excellence.

For Paul, one of the most surprising discoveries has been witnessing the immense potential young people possess when they are supported and believed in.

“The most surprising thing I’ve learned through mentoring Kevin is how much potential young people have when they are guided and believed in,” he says. “Kevin is determined, open to learning, and always willing to improve himself both academically and personally.”

What began as career guidance has evolved into something much deeper. Through their conversations, Paul has come to appreciate that mentorship is not simply about helping someone choose a profession. It is about helping them navigate life with wisdom, discipline, and confidence.

For Kevin, that guidance has been transformative.

“One specific moment that really changed my perspective was when Paul encouraged me to stay focused and make wise decisions concerning both school and life challenges,” Kevin shares. “There were times I felt uncertain about certain choices, but his advice helped me think clearly and confidently.”

Over time, those conversations have helped Kevin become more responsible, focused, and optimistic about his future. More importantly, these conversations have shown him the value of having someone who believes in his potential and walks alongside him as he grows.

If Paul and Kevin were to describe their mentorship journey in one phrase, it would be “Soaring Like Eagles.”

As members of The Eagle Group within Tuendelee Foundation, this phrase symbolizes growth, vision, strength, and the courage to rise above challenges.

Their story is a reminder that mentorship is not about creating followers—it is about nurturing leaders. And sometimes, all it takes for someone to soar is another person willing to believe in them until they learn to believe in themselves.
